Kaliasot

Dam Road in Ratibad on Thursday afternoon, killing 20-yearold Priya Shrivastava of Institute of Excellence and injuring seven.

The impact was so severe that the car carrying Priya skidded 100 feet and plunged into the waters of the dam. Priya’s friend Sanket Wankhede — a drummer and engineering student at DAVV College — was at the wheel. He is in ICU, said his father Sanjay Wankhede.

Priya was a resident of Sai Estate in Trilanga and her father Abhay Shrivastava works with MPEB. A BCom final year student at Excellence College, she was with her collegemate Vishal Mali in Sanket’s i10. The other car, a Maruti Estillo, had five youngsters from Jagran Lake City University — 20-yearolds Shruti Khare, Ruchika Sahni and Akshita Bhadouria, and Rahul Verma and Hindu Khush Rajkumar, both 19.

Priya and Vishal were good friends, his uncle G P Mali, a former ADM, told TOI. Sanket, who studies in Indore, has come down to Bhopal for Dussehra and went to meet Priya at her college on Thursday, Mali said. Around 1.30pm, Priya, Sanket and Vishal decided to go for an outing in Sanket’s car. They set off from the college and were driving towards Kerwa Dam when a car coming from the opposite direction hit them at a culvert near Bull Mother Farm barely 10 minutes later, said SHO Ratibad SI JP Tripathi.
